AE86 Engine Swap: Day one

Posted: October 13, 2012 in Uncategorized

With help from a couple of awesome friends, we’ve got the old engine out of the car and stripped of everything (cams, cam gears, clutch, flywheel, pulleys, sandwich plate, cam covers, water pump & thermostat, inlet manifold etc) and the new engine stripped back and ready to take all the good bits. It already has the cams, cam covers & oil sandwich plate fitted.

It’s been a pretty awesome day. Sometimes working on cars is a massive chore but on days like today it’s how a hobby is meant to be – just good fun. I hope this shot gives you the idea.

Tomorrow we’ll put all the remaining bits together and, hopefully, get the engine & gearbox sitting in the car!
